Why did they do Chinese foot binding?

Chinese foot binding was a particularly barbaric technique which persisted largely in rural China until recently. This was primarily a social practice. The practice required the very restricted binding of the feet of girls and the retaining of them bound to stop the foot from growing. This was a painful practice and brought about considerable deformity and incapacity. Those who ended up put through this practice had to wear specifically created and made footwear. There was quite a form of art to this and the shoes that these children needed to use were embellished quite purposely and exotically. The actual cause of the practice of Chinese foot binding was that smaller sized feet were regarded as far more attractive in females. A much higher price can be demanded by the family of the bride to be for the dowry. The actual practice was very common in rural China for several centuries and just recently started to die out about 100 years ago resulting from social pressures that have been brought to bear on the practice because of the pain and impairment that it was causing.

You can still find a number of older Chinese woman living right now with these misshaped feet from the foot binding when they were younger. The tragedy is because of what happened once they were children they do need to keep their feet bound because it is more comfortable than not having them bound because the deformity is now so great. There has been plenty of cultural and psychological research into the practice primarily in the framework of this being performed too please the male as opposed to being of any advantage to the woman. Of contemporary awareness is the current practice of females wearing tight fitting high heel shoes has attracted characteristics with Chinese foot binding. Some of the cultural and psychological analysis of this have definitely suggested the comparison between the two practices and who actually benefits from the practice. Both are painful, both create foot deformity, and both are for the benefit of the male gender.
